Scientific review board
Yves Christen,
PhD in biology, currently
Vice-President of IPSEN Foundation, has been for many years a noted
scientific journalist. He has gained worldwide recognition for his
expertise on Alzheimer disease, and for the organization of the famous
IPSEN conferences on various aspects of nervous diseases. He is the
co-author of more than 50 monographs issued from these conferences, and
author of several monographs on the philosophy of science and ethology.
James D. Guest, M.D., Ph.D., currently associate
professor of Neurological Surgery at the Miami Veterans Affairs Medical Center, is extensively involved in national
and international spinal cord injury research communities, applying his clinical
and basic science knowledge in several fields. He participates on the scientific
committees of the International Spinal Research Trust, the International
Campaign for Cures of Spinal Cord Injury Paralysis, the Miami Project to Cure
Paralysis and the American Spinal Injury Association. He is a faculty member of
the Neuroscience Graduate Program. http://neurosurgery.med.miami.edu/x66.xml?id=34793
Jean-Marc Kamenka,
PhD in chemistry,
has a long record of research in medicinal chemistry in the area of
neuroscience. He has been the designer of a whole series of molecules
issued from Phencyclidine, with applications in neuroprotection and
modulation of monoamines’ effects on mood and motor behaviour. He has
been awarded the “Grand Prix Science Défense” for his outstanding
contribution to neuroprotection against organophosphorous compounds.
Regino Perez-Polo,
PhD in biophysics,
currently a full professor of the Department of Human Biology,
Chemistry & Genetics at University of Galveston, is Chairman ad
Interim at UTBM and Director ad Interim of the Searly Center for
Molecular Science. He is a member of the Executive Committee Scientific
Advisory Board of the American Paralysis Association which became the
Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation. He is also Associate Editor of
the Journal of Neuroscience Research and Editor-in-Chief of the
International Journal of Developmental Neuroscience.

John Steeves, PhD in neuroscience & physiology,
currently a full professor at University of British Columbia (UBC) and
Vancouver Hospital, founder of ICORD (International Collaboration On
Repair Discoveries) as the first multidisciplinary research group at
UBC, directs the Rick Hansen Spinal Cord Injury Network’s (SCI-Net) and
is Chair of the Clinical Trials Committee of the International Campaign
for Cures for Spinal Cord Injury Paralysis (ICCP). He has been the
President or Board Director of several biotechnology companies
dedicated to the treatment of neurological disorders.

Jacques Vignon, PhD in neuropharmacology, has
been trained in Michel Ladzunski's lab where he has been involved in
the characterization of the phencyclidine targets. In collaboration
with Drs Kamenka and Privat he has then unravelled the mode of action
of different PCP derivatives with applications in the field of
neuroprotection and addiction, and published more than 40 papers on
these subjects. His research now focuses on new therapeutic approaches
for type 2 diabetes, mainly the pharmacological regulation of insulin
secretion by P2Y receptors.
